In Malaysia, including the area around Sunway Pyramid, mosquitoes are a common nuisance due to the tropical climate and high humidity. The presence of stagnant water and lush vegetation provides ideal breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Mosquitoes are not only bothersome but also pose a significant health risk as carriers of various diseases.
Among the mosquito-borne diseases prevalent in Malaysia, dengue fever is a major concern. Dengue fever is transmitted by the Aedes mosquito and can lead to severe symptoms such as high fever, muscle and joint pain, and in some cases, dengue hemorrhagic fever which can be life-threatening. Other mosquito-borne diseases such as malaria and chikungunya are also reported in Malaysia, although to a lesser extent.
To combat the mosquito situation in Malaysia, including Sunway Pyramid, efforts are undertaken to eliminate breeding grounds, use insect repellents, and implement fogging to reduce mosquito populations. Public awareness campaigns are also conducted to educate the community on preventive measures against mosquito-borne diseases. While these efforts have been somewhat successful, the risk of mosquito-borne diseases remains a concern in the region.
